Puzzle

Reigns: Game of Thrones is the heir to the award-winning HBO® TV series Game of Thrones® and the smash-hit swipe ‘em up series Reigns from Nerial and Devolver Digital. Through the fiery visions of Melisandre, claim the Iron Throne as Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and more to carefully navigate the complex relationships and hostile factions of the Seven Kingdoms. Employ ruthless tactics to outwit political rivals and wield impervious charm on your fickle bannerman. Maintain the balance and favor of the people to extend your reign and maybe, one day, survive the horrors of the coming winter.

Features

A Formidable Cast: Rule from the Iron Throne as Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Sansa Stark, and more. Change between each king and queen you unlock to face challenges and mysteries unique to their story.

Impose Your Will: Swipe left or right to change the fate of the Seven Kingdoms forever as you hear the impassioned pleas and unpredictable demands from the people of Westeros. If a particular character becomes bothersome, tear their card in half to unburden Your Majesty with their concerns – but at what cost?

Reenvision Westeros: Melisandre’s visions are your playing field and extend beyond the TV series to imagine the many fates of those that would sit upon the Iron Throne. Rebuild the Great Sept of Baelor as Cersei or discover the path of the Seven Kingdoms if Sansa Stark had married Jaime Lannister.

Regal Mini Games: Even the most powerful rulers need to set aside their worries and partake in more trivial matters now and then. From jousting to tavern brawls, these distractions aren’t without consequence!

A Grander Reigns: Fans of the Reigns series will be delighted with the biggest, deepest entry in the series that does not simply retell the stories you know but rather lets you create new adventures at your whim.

Iconic Soundtrack: Decide the fate of Westeros and those that reside in your land to the soaring score of the HBO series by Ramin Djawadi.

Reigns: Game of Thrones is a strategy video game developed by Nerial in partnership with HBO and published by Devolver Digital. As the third entry in and a spin-off from the Reigns series, after Reigns (2016) and Reigns: Her Majesty (2017), the game is based on characters from the Game of Thrones franchise. Reigns: Game of Thrones was released in October 2018 for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Microsoft Windows. A version for Nintendo Switch was released in April 2019.

Gameplay[edit]

Reigns: Game of Thrones plays similarly to its predecessors.[1] Described as a 'swipe 'em up', the game allows the player to be one of the principals from the Game of Thrones universe, including Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, and Sansa Stark.[2] In the game, the player is continually presented with questions regarding the ruling of their kingdom, where each has a binary choice: swipe left to accept or right to decline the proposal in question.[3] Every choice can have an impact on four factors: military strength, religious favour, domestic popularity, and state wealth.[3] Each card indicates which factors would be affected by either decision, but not how strongly or whether the effect would be positive or negative.[3] If either factor rises to its maximum or falls to its minimum, the player's character dies and is succeeded by another character.[3] The player begins the game as Daenerys Targaryen and progressively unlocks other characters throughout the gameplay.[4] With each character, the player encounters different challenges based on that character's story arc.[5] The game also includes minigames, such as jousting and tavern brawling.[5]

Development[edit]

Before he created Reigns: Game of Thrones, François Alliot, the founder of video game developer Nerial, had been a fan of Game of Thrones since he read the original books by George R. R. Martin, and had also enjoyed the eponymous TV series.[6] When he pitched the original Reigns to publisher Devolver Digital, Alliot described the game as 'Tinder meets Game of Thrones'; Devolver Digital later passed this idea on to HBO, the company behind the Game of Thrones TV series, to agree on a licensing deal.[6]

Game Of Thrones Wiki

The writing behind Reigns: Game of Thrones was primarily done by Alliot and his wife, Tamara.[6]Leigh Alexander, previously the writer of predecessor Reigns: Her Majesty, provided the writing for the character Cersei Lannister.[6] All writing was worked out in association with HBO to ensure that it stayed true to the original material.[6] Due to the element of choice, the player is able to alter the outcome of events that are canon in the Game of Thrones TV series.[7] To cope with the issue, the game's lore states that all events were visions of the character Melisandre, through which the game creates a 'what if?' scenario.[7]

Release[edit]

Reigns: Game of Thrones was revealed by publisher Devolver Digital on 23 August 2018, through a trailer published on YouTube.[8][9] Coinciding with the reveal, Devolver Digital announced that game would be released on 18 October that year, for Android via Google Play, for iOS via the App Store, and for personal computers (Linux, macOS and Microsoft Windows)[10] via Steam.[11] Pre-orders on all three distribution services were launched alongside the announcement.[12] The game was released across all targeted platforms on the intended date.[13] A version of Reigns: Game of Thrones for Nintendo Switch was released on 11 April 2019 via the Nintendo eShop.[14]
